New Zealand 2006 - Southern Island

A beautiful island, full of nature. We discovered all of it by RV. Highlights of this island are the Fiordland National Park and the Southern Alps. We had the pleasure to make a two day cruise in Doubtful Sound. Also wonderful to see from above from a float plane or a helicopter. Don't forget to go see the movie Ata Whenua in Te Anau. Magical! Of course it is fun to meet the animal world. Sleepy or fighting sea lions and seals and on Otago Peninsula we met the Yellow-Eyed penguin up close and personal. It was a challenge to keep the Kea's away from the wipers of the RV. Further we traveled by TranzAlpine from Christchurch to Greymouth, rated as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. The Southern Island is certainly one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen.
